| The eukaryotic chromosome is highly complex. At the time of cell division the central DNA molecule is complexed with, and wrapped around, protein structures called nuclesomes. As the wrapping and winding become tighter and tigher the nucleosomes draw together and the chromosome becomes more and more condensed. These fully condensed chromosomes stain with colored dyes and can be seen under the light microscope. |
