Cillia
The coordinated beating of a mass of cillia on the surface of a cell moves the surrounding liquid in the opposite direction. In cross section it can be seen that each cillium as a '9+2' arrangement of microtubles in its center. It is the movement of these microtubles past one another that produces the characteristic bending of the cillium.
