Cell Biology

Prophase - early
During prophase the cell prepares the cellular mechanisms it needs for the successful separation of its chromosomes. The chromosomes first appear as tiny threads and continue to condense. The nuclear membrane breaks down and eventually vanishes. Centrioles move apart and microtubular fibers form, spread and create the spindle apparatus.

Prophase - early

  • Centrioles begin to migrate towards opposite sides of the cell.
  • Chromosomes start to become visible to staining.
  • Nucleolus (if present) fades.
