| A single convex lens will magnify and image (top) but the results are often poor. Light of different colors is bent by the lens on slightly different paths and don't focus in the same place. This gives an image which is blurred and shows fringes of color. An 'achromatic' lens is made of two different lenses each ground out from different types of glass. One lens corrects for the faults of the other and the image it produces is much more clear and in focus. |
