Important Advice on taking the

MID-TERM EXAM

Note: this information applies only to those lecture sections taught by Professor Blamire. Other students should consult their individual lecture and laboratory instructors.

Important Exam Information

The test will last one hour.
The test will normally consist of 34 multiple choice questions on the factual material covered in the course so far, and
there may be a series of additional questions relating to the research assignment.
You may be asked to identify or work with drawings or figures, but you will NOT be asked to draw and figures or diagrams.
The questions on the examination will be based on
- material from the lecture notes,
- material from the readings from the e-textbook,
- material found on this web site, and
- material or results from a research assignment.
There will be three types of questions:
- factual questions about the content of the course,
- analysis questions that ask you to use a biological principle to solve a problem of some kind, and
- questions about an investigation into a biological topic or principle that you have been asked to carry out.
Factual questions will be based on material directly from lecture notes, the e-textbook, and material found on this web site.
Analysis questions will ask you to consider a situation, problem or scientific experiment and then answer questions based on your conclusions from this material. You should prepare for this section of the test by trying to understand the principles involved and not just the 'facts'.
Questions about an investigation will ask you to analyze the results of one or more of the "investigation" topic sections on this web site. Before coming to take the mid-term examination you should have carried out all or the assigned parts of this (these) investigations and be prepared to answer questions about the results and what they mean.

Part Six:	Concept Questions	Your answers to a series of a virtual concept questions; ask instructor for details. Topic will relate to the research investigation.

For the examination...

... you will need to bring with you

Your offical Brooklyn College Identification Card - this must be shown to the instructor
Your assigned PCIN or seat number. This will normally be posted (or given to you) before the examination.
The exact name under which you registered (This is important!).
The name of your laboratory instructor. (This is very important).
A PENCIL to fill in the computer form.
NOTE: Failure to follow any of the rules that apply to taking this test can result in a lowering of your grade! Please follow all instructions carefully.
