The Words of Science

coenzyme A

(CoA) A molecule that participates in the chemical reactions of respiration. Two carbon acetyl molecules are joined to CoA in a variety of chemical reactions that break down food molecules such as lipid and hydrocarbons. The acetyl CoA molecules then move to the Krebs cycle where the two carbon fragments are passed into the Krebs cycle for further breakdown and the release of energy.
