Middle States Self-Study Institutional Assessment Survey: March 2008
About the Survey
As you know, the College is in the process of preparing the Brooklyn College Middle States Self-Study report in anticipation of the re-accreditation review to be conducted by a Middle States Commission on Higher Education Visiting Team in Spring 2009. This process focuses on determining how well the College meets fourteen Characteristics of Excellence as defined by the Middle States Commission.
Institutional Effectiveness (Standard 7) is one of the most important characteristics that the College must address. It is defined as follows:
The institution has developed and implemented an assessment process that evaluates its overall effectiveness in achieving its mission and goals and its compliance with accreditation standards.
In order to report on our compliance and progress in Institutional Assessment since the last Middle States visit in 1999, we need to collect information about how and how often the administrative units in the College determine that their services are working and whether they introduce change into their services. We have a good inventory of activity from 1999-2004 but we need to compile information about what has been happening in each of the major administrative units since 2004.
Institutional Assessment Survey, 2004-Present
The Middle States Steering Committee's Working Group 2 has developed seven questions about your assessment activity over the period 2004-2007 and formatted the questions in an Excel template. We ask only for information about existing materials and processes, not for you to create or invent documentation that does not exist. If you have not been conducting routine assessment in your area, we ask that you explain and summarize plans to begin the process.
