About the Periodic Review Report
The Periodic Review Report (PRR) is a retrospective, current and prospective analysis of Brooklyn College prepared for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (CHE), our regional accrediting body. It is the five-year follow-up report to our ten-year self-study accreditation visit. The CHE Handbook for Periodic Review Reports is used as a guide for completing the PRR. Our PRR response was submitted to CHE in June of 2004.
Every ten years the College prepares a comprehensive self-study that is submitted to the CHE prior to undergoing an evaluation visit by a committee of faculty and administrators selected from peer institutions of higher education. Following the site visit, this committee writes an evaluation report based on the College’s self-study, findings from the site visit, CHE standards outlined in Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education, and other applicable sources.
The last site visit and Evaluation Team Report for Brooklyn College took place in Spring 1999. Drawing upon the self-study and the evaluation report, the CHE voted to affirm the College’s accreditation at its meeting in November 1999.
Under the direction of President Christoph M. Kimmich and Provost Roberta Matthews, a Coordinating Committee, including faculty members, administrators, and students, was established in November 2002 to draft the PRR. The Coordinating Committee, in turn, formed five working committees to investigate and report on significant aspects of the College from the last institutional self-study and the CHE evaluation report, and to assist in preparing the other sections of the PRR.
