Preliminary Self Study Design
In fall 2006, Brooklyn College began its preparation for our accreditation review by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 2009-a timetable established by Middle States that encompasses three academic years. Milestones in the process include:
Year 1, 2006-2007: Launch and Organization of the Self-Study Effort
- Brooklyn College Steering Committee appointed by President Kimmich in October and college representatives attend the Middle States Self-Study Training Institute
- Steering Committee selects a comprehensive report format and recommends a governance structure consisting of seven Working Groups to address the fourteen Middle States Standards of Excellence; Working Groups are constituted
- A Preliminary Self-Study Design, including charges for the seven Working Groups, is drafted and sent to Middle States Liaison Officer Luis Pedraja who visits the College on April 19th
- Following the visit, the Self-Study Design is finalized and submitted to Middle States
Year 2, 2007-2008: Development of the Self-Study and Planning for the Site Visit
- Working Groups conduct their investigations and present individual reports by April 2008; Steering Committee monitors progress and provides a forum for discussion of issues that cut across the Working Groups
- Brooklyn College and Middle States identify the chairperson and members of the visiting team and schedule the accreditation visit for spring 2009
- Working Group reports are merged into a Self-Study draft
Year 3, 2008-2009: Issuing Self-Study and Hosting the Site Visit
- Draft Self-Study Report is circulated to college community; town meetings are scheduled; the Self-Study is finalized and sent to Middle States and the visiting team
- Site visit occurs; visiting team report and college response are issued
- Commission action occurs in summer/fall 2009
