At any given time during a year, Facilities Planning is dealing with over 80 different projects from new buildings to a chair for a new faculty member.
The Facilities Department handles over 100 furniture moves per year.
- There's a campus "Lamping Crew". It consists of people who work, full time, to change over 28,000 light fixtures on campus.
- One member of our Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) staff works full time to lubricate the 200 heating and cooling machines on campus for preventative maintenance.
- There are over 2,000 plumbing fixtures on campus, including sinks, toilets and water fountains.
- A crew of three members of the custodial staff works full-time picking up cigarette butts around the campus.
- There are 1400 offices on campus, which are cleaned regularly.
- It took 100 gallons of paint to do the 27 classrooms in Whitehead Hall. This includes 90 gallons of semi-gloss paint in white and 10 gallons of miscellaneous colors for the trim and moldings.
- Over the New Year's Eve 2000 weekend, 7 men worked for about 36 hours to remove all the snow after the biggest storm of the year. They used 8 tons of rock salt, 3 tons of sand and 5 tons of calcium chloride. Arriving on Friday, the crew didn't go home until New Year's Eve! After the storm of the weekend of January 20th, 7 men worked for 16 hours and used 5 tons of road salt, 2 tons of sand and 3 tons of calcium chloride to clear all paths of snow and ice.

The BRICKS with writing on them planted in front of the library, on Alumni Walk of which there are more than 300 to date, are maintained by the Custodial Staff of Facilities Management. The BRICKS are part of an on-going fund raising effort run by the Office of Alumni Affairs.
