Greenfield is the office assistant in the graduate-level Educational Leadership Program, part of the School of Education, where she works closely with program head Professor David Bloomfield. "We make a good team," she says. Adds Bloomfield: "Lorraine Greenfield is key to the program's success. She is my closest colleague and expert in all administrative aspects of our work." Roughly 120 schoolteachers preparing to become assistant principals and principals are currently enrolled in the three-semester 12-course program. More than a dozen professors–many retired principals and others still on the job–teach in the program. Greenfield's warm feelings for Brooklyn College may have something to do with the fact that she was born and grew up in Midwood and attended Midwood High across the street from the campus. "I've seen the Brooklyn College bell tower every day of my life," she says. The eldest of three children, Greenfield dates the start of her career back to the time she spent at Kingsborough Community College pursuing an associate's degree in Computer Information Systems and working part time. "My mother worked at CUNY for twenty-five years," Greenfield explains. "When this job opened up, she urged me to apply for it." Greenfield also takes a class each semester, steadily working toward achieving a bachelor's degree in health and nutrition sciences. "Lorraine is an extremely dedicated, competent, caring, and supportive professional whose personal qualities and characteristics are worthy of great praise," says Professor Robert Leder in support of her nomination. "When you walk into her office, you are immediately impressed by her knowledge, her demeanor, and her polite manner." |
