CAMPUS SAFETY NOTICES

Traffic and Parking Advisory - February 1, 2 and 3, 2012

The following Traffic and Parking Advisory is being sent for Feb. 1, 2 and 3, 2012 and will affect the campus community:

Wed. Feb. 1 – A major event will be held in Whitman Theatre starting at 5 pm. This event will require planning and set up prior to the event and some parking for dignitaries. Therefore, the “C “ Parking lot ( adjacent to Whitman Theatre) will be CLOSED on Wed. Feb. 1st from 7am to 5pm. Public Safety Personnel will be assigned to the additional parking lots to assist College Parking Permit holders to find parking. In addition, persons parking in the “B” Lot (adjacent to the Nostrand Ave. meat market) are requested to vacate this lot by 5:15pm. Also, at approximately 5:15pm, the East Entrance to the parking lot at Avenue H and Campus Rd./ Nostrand Avenue will be open for two way traffic. Officers will be present to assist and direct traffic.

Thur./Fri. Feb. 2nd and 3rd – Schooltime Performances are scheduled for Whitman Theatre for both days in the morning and at noon on the 3rd. With the construction now taking place at the area of Hillel Place and Campus Road, the arrival of the school buses will make travelling along Campus road extremely challenging. Parking will be reserved for the buses on Campus Road, both sides of the street, from Hillel Place to Bedford Avenue. In addition, parking will be reserved for buses on the west side of Bedford Avenue from Campus Road to the LIRR overpass. PERSONS DRIVING TO CAMPUS ARE URGED TO AVOID THESE AREAS.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

911 on Campus Phones

Please be advised that the college phone system has been adjusted to facilitate easier access to campus emergency response services. Users can now dial 911 on any college phone and be automatically connected to our Campus Safety Services Office.

Note that users can still dial Public Safety's emergency telephone line at 718-951-5444 and 718-951-5445 to report an emergency. In addition, extensions 5444 and 5445 can also be dialed from within the college's telphone system to report an emergency.

Please note that you can still reach the NYC 911 services, by dialing 9, then 911. However we highly recommend by that you directly call us instead. That is because we will immediately call NYC 911 and can more easily coordinate and direct any NYC response. If you dial NYC 911 on your own, it will be very hard for any first responders to find you on our large campus.

You will probably notice that pressing 9 to obtain an outside line no longer give you a new dial tone. That is a result of the changes needed to make campus 911 possible. After pressing 9 to obtain an outside line, you will now hear only silence, after which you should enter the outside phone number prefaced by 1, as you did in the past (1 followed by the area code and telephone number).

Please contact the Telecommunications Office at 718-951-5533 if you have any questions about this new service.
