The equipment currently available includes:
voice input and output to computers, screen magnification for students with visual impairments, Braille printers, tactile image enhancers, OCR with voice output systems, and alternative keyboards and input devices for students with limited use of their hands. Jim says that he "focuses on people’s abilities rather than their disabilities" and make modifications accordingly.
Prior to joining ITS, Jim spent the last thirteen years working as a technology specialist at The Lighthouse. He assessed and trained hundreds in a "Saturday Youth Program" and in several other successful programs to use a variety of specialized computer applications. Jim understands the necessity for everyone to be able to use and have access to computers at school and in the work place.
Jim lives in Rockland County with his wife and two children. On weekends he enjoys walking in the woods with Alaska his Siberian Husky. A Brooklyn native, Jim says he still feels most at home here.
ITS has detailed instructions on how to attach and set up your Exchange Mail Account to a Web browser using: Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0, Netscape Navigator 3.0 & Communicator 4.0. Users can also bring ITS a Zip disk or a blank CD and we will supply you with a version of Exchange to install on your personal PC. Faculty can then log-in to Exchange from home if they have an Internet Service Provider. Note: Because of compatibiltiy issues, ITS is unable to provide this service for users of America Online.
For further information contact ITS at 951-5861.
ITS is conducting a Year 2000 (Y2K) readiness inventory of all PCs on campus. Peggy Yuan and Alex Rodinov (ITS Inventory Clerks) have been assigned to visit each office to gather the necessary information for this inventory. Working in coordination with college departments and offices, June Jones has been scheduling appointments with the department heads in order to gain proper and orderly access to the offices.
Some of the information gathered includes: B C Numbers, Serial Numbers, Vendor Names, RAM, Hard Drive and Network Access cards from CPUs, Monitors and Printers. Thank you for your cooperation and please contact us at x5861 if you have any questions.
