Computer Center co-hosts Virtual Seminar on CUNY Media Distribution Systems

Brooklyn College has once again demonstated its role as a technology leader in CUNY. ITS has been co-hosting a series of virtual seminars using the CUNY Media Distribution System. The seminars have varied in focus. A seminar in mid-December focused on the first-ever CUNY distance learning course (German Conversation) which was offered at Brooklyn and Hunter colleges in the Fall 97. Noteworthy is that this seminar was the first time CUNY had six school-sites fully connected and fully participating in a live video conference.

In a two-way interactive presentation entitled, "Spring 1998 Plans and Programs at Host Sites" Selena Threet represented Brooklyn College and described how the College has used and is planning to implement these new technologies. For example, Ms. Threet described:

The second half of the presentation dealt with a hands-on demonstration on how to control and access The second half of the presentation dealt with a hands-on demonstration on how to control and access resources from remote CUNY locations. To illustrate the system’s capacity, Ms. Threet linked to the CUNY’s 57th Street server and logged into the school’s available resources. To illustrate a specific example of the system’s versatility, she accessed the Laser disc collection and called-up footage from the documentary "Eyes on the Prize."

The seminar was sponsored by: Brooklyn College, City College, Hunter College, Lehman College and the College of Staten Island.
