The Conservatory Orchestra

The third movement Scherzo from Beethoven's "Symphony No. 7" was captured with all of its exuberance by Harry Saltzman and the Conservatory Orchestra during this 1995 Whitman Hall performance.

"Un bel di" from Puccini's "Madame Butterfly"

Hui Cheng, soprano

Voice student Hui Cheng attended the Chinese Conservatory of Music in Beijing prior to graduate study at Brooklyn College. She sings "Un bel di" - anticipating the return of her American husband, Lieutenant Pinkerton - from the second act of Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" in this 1993 Brooklyn College Opera Theater performance in Whitman Hall.

Zhi Shun An - "Menacing Tiger"
Brooklyn College Percussion Ensemble

Morris Lang, percussionist with the New York Philharmonic and director of the Brooklyn College Percussion Ensemble, recently returned from a tour of Korea with members of the ensemble. In this 1987 excerpt, he led the group in a work composed in traditional Chinese style by Zhi Shun An, "Menacing Tiger".

Philip Glass - "Music in Similar Motion"

Composer/conductor Tania León has led orchestras around the globe. As director of the Conservatory Orchestra in 1992, she led the ensemble in a performance of "Music in Similar Motion" by Philip Glass.

Erasmia Voukelatos, piano

Student pianist Erasmia Voukelatos, winner of the 1991 Conservatory of Music Concerto Competition, performed with the Conservatory Orchestra under the direction of Dorothy Klotzman for this first movement from Bach's "Concerto in D Minor, BWV 1052", taken from a 1991 Whitman Hall concert.

Gordon Langford - Sinfonietta I. Allegro ma non troppo

This exciting excerpt from Gordon Langford's "Sinfonietta" showcases the technical and lyrical potential of the Brooklyn College Brass Ensemble, led by Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Conservatory faculty member Douglas Hedwig.
