BC Mellon Mays Fellows Surpass Ivy League Colleagues

Brooklyn College now has 25 Mellon Mays fellows who are currently pursuing their doctoral degree. That’s more than any other college or university that joined when we started participating in the program in 1989—including half the Ivy League schools in existence.

The big surprise is that we don’t have even more fellows. Lots of our students are eligible to join the program—many more than ever apply.

Brooklyn College has taken a huge green step forward. Starting with the Summer 2010 semester, we've discontinued printing the Schedule of Classes. From now on, you can find course listings and important registration and tuition payment information on the college website.

Need a lift? How about a great cup of coffee that won't burn a hole in your wallet?

Brooklyn College Coffee, the college's first student-run coffee shop, is serving up a mean cup of java. Located in the café ("The Spot") on the first floor of the Student Center, the collective dispenses amazing direct trade coffee, which is cooler and more sustainable than fair trade. It purchases beans through a distributor that makes sure coffee farmers are paid fairly so that they can profitably turn out small harvests of expertly crafted, distinctive coffee beans that are so much better for both your taste buds and Mother Earth than the mass-produced stuff.

One of the hardest-working departments at Brooklyn College may be the Department of Film, tucked way back in the West End Building. The department's standards are notoriously strict (more than two absences in a class and you can't pass it), and its students are notably industrious—and impressively busy.
