Spotlight ArchiveBrooklyn, NY - How will the electronic book alter the relationships between people, words, and communications?
The digital revolution has already created the e-book, available only on computer monitors, and the ramifications are changing the lives of readers, authors, publishers, booksellers, and libraries. Brooklyn College is sponsoring a conference "Electrifying the Book: Evolutionary or Revolutionary?" on April 4, from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Speakers will include Clifford Lynch, executive director of the Coalition for Networked Information, and Doreen Carvajal, business and technology writer for the New York Times.
The program will include a presentation of netLibrary, the world's largest collection of full-text electronic reference, scholarly, and professional books, and will feature a preview of Microsoft Reader/ClearType, a software application that delivers an on-screen reading experience that rivals the one offered by traditional paper-based texts. Such electronic reading devices as Rocket eBook and Softbook will also be demonstrated.
