Professor Martha J. Bell, chairperson of the Department of Educational Services, has been named the Murray Koppelman Professor for the 1998-2000 academic years. Funded by Brooklyn College alumnus Murray Koppelman, Class of 1957, the professorship provides an annual stipend of $12,500 and allows a member of the faculty to devote time to community service.

Professor Bell has an impressive record of community service. For more than twenty years she has championed outreach programs, working with high schools and communities across the state to help bring disadvantaged students to college. She is a member of the City University of New York Faculty Senate as well as the director of SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) at Brooklyn College, a program that helps students with counseling, tutoring, and remediation.
