Brooklyn, NY - The Center for Educational Change (CEC), which extends the expertise of the faculty of Brooklyn College's School of Education to New York City public schools, will commemorate its tenth anniversary at the Student Center, on Tuesday, November 30, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The event will include an award ceremony honoring the following for their outstanding contributions to the center: Chancellor Rudolph F. Crew; Brooklyn College President Vernon Lattin; New York State Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs, Class of '62; New York State Assemblyman Edward Griffith, who heads the Brooklyn delegation of the Assembly; Martha Graham, vice-president of precollegiate education at Chase Manhattan Bank; Frederica Jarcho, program director of Greenwall Foundation; and George Friedman, Class of '56, Brooklyn College trustee.

There will also be a testimonial by teachers and administrators about the work of the center and an exhibit of teacher's curriculum projects and children's work. Photographs of the center's exhibits, meetings, and conferences will be shown.

The Center for Educational Change, established in 1989, unites professors with public school teachers, parents, and administrators to bring effective educational strategies into the classroom. The center serves schools throughout New York City.

"Our purpose is to narrow the gap between theory and practice in the classroom," said Vicki Irgang, director of the center. "Each school defines its own needs and each partnership is as individual as the school in which it is created."

The center offers schools one-on-one mentoring, seminars, workshops, study groups, demonstration lessons, summer and weekend institutes, conferences, roundtable discussions, school library development, and a wide variety of courses. In addition, CEC provides professional development for administrators; workshops for parents; and visits from well known writers such as children's book authors Angelo DeCesare and Vera B. Williams.
