Brooklyn, NY - In an effort to significantly reduce energy consumption in the new millennium, Brooklyn College and Con Edison Solutions are building a central chiller plant with a capacity of 9,000 tons of chilled water.

"The new plant will allow for optimal fuel efficiency year-round," said Steve G. Czirak, assistant vice-president of facilities planning and operations at Brooklyn College.

The project was made possible through the support of the Office of the Governor, the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York, the Office of the Chancellor of the City University of New York, the City University of New York's Department of Design and Construction Management, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, and the New York State Division of Budget.

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 26, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the campus entrance at Avenue H and Ocean Avenue. Press contact: Alice Newcomb-Doyle, 718-951-5882.
