Strategic Plan Draft Launches Community Dialogue

A draft of the Strategic Plan for Brooklyn College, based on work done by a dozen sub-committees composed of faculty, staff and administration, is currently being distributed to the college community.

The draft summarizes the full Strategic Planning report, which can be seen in its entirety on the main strategic planning information page at: http://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/bc/president/planning/main.htm. The document will serve as the basis for discussion and recommendations as the final plan is adopted and implemented.

The Planning Council suggests the following process for campus-wide community involvement:

A. Discussions at October academic department meetings, staff meetings of the administrative divisions and meetings of the Student Advisory Committee.

B. Open hearings scheduled for Wednesday, November 1, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and Tuesday, November 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., to be co-sponsored by Faculty Council and the Student Advisory Committee. More information to follow.

The Planning Council will collect information from those meetings and hearings. Written submissions are also invited and should be sent via e-mail to strategicplan@brooklyn.cuny.edu, or to Jane Herbert in the Office of the President. At the conclusion of the campus discussion period in November, a final version of the Strategic Plan will be developed and an action plan to attain the goals devised.

The Strategic Plan's major goals include:

Enhancing academic excellence;
Recruiting, retaining and supporting excellent faculty and staff.
Attracting and retaining outstanding students;
Becoming a "model citizen" in the Borough of Brooklyn;
Ensuing and strengthening the financial health and management of the College;
Creating more effective internal and external communications; and
Developing the latest educational technology and adequate support.
