Spotlight ArchiveBrooklyn College has received the 1998 Hesburgh Award from Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association-College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) for Transformations, a multifaceted faculty-development program that helps students make a smoother transition to college life.
The Hesburgh Award was created by TIAA-CREF to recognize and reward successful faculty development programs that enhance undergraduate teaching and to encourage the growth of similar initiatives at America’s colleges and universities. It is named in honor of renowned educator and humanitarian Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame.
President Bill Clinton congratulated the college in a letter to President Vernon E. Lattin, stating, "We must build and support an educational system that offers our country’s promise to every citizen, and we must provide every student with the skills and knowledge to reach his or her God-given potential."
