Brooklyn, NY - Brooklyn College is offering a new course in English as a Second Language and is accepting students for the spring 1999 semester.

The course, given under the auspices of the American Language Academy of the Division of Continuing Education, will help international students prepare for undergraduate and graduate programs. Brooklyn College is authorized under Federal law to enroll students with nonimmigrant alien status.

The full-time program includes classes that meet for 20 hours per week, Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Four nine-week terms will be offered each year. In order to qualify for and maintain visa status, students must enroll in three of the four sessions per year. Brooklyn College Continuing Education also welcomes international students seeking to master English for business or personal use.

"We're very excited about these classes, which will be taught by talented teachers and be limited in size to ensure individual attention," said Hilda Feldman of Continuing Education. Tuition for the program is $995, along with a $15 nonrefundable application fee per term, and a $60 nonrefundable fee for I-20 applicants only. To register or to obtain further information, contact Ms. Feldman at (718) 951-4526. Classes begin March 8. Placement tests will be given on March 1 at 10 a.m.

Brooklyn College, founded in 1930, is one of the eleven senior colleges of the City University of New York. It educates 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The school is known nationally for its core curriculum, which has been hailed as one of the "bright spots" in American higher education. Located on a 26-acre tree-lined campus in Flatbush, Brooklyn College has a diverse student body representing more than 70 of the borough's 100 ethnic groups.
