Brooklyn College Provost Christoph M. Kimmich was named interim chancellor of the City University of New York by the Board of Trustees. In this important position, Dr. Kimmich will work closely with the board as it moves CUNY forward into the next century.

Dr. Kimmich, a member of the Brooklyn College Department of History since 1978, became acting provost in 1988 and provost a year later. As provost, he has been responsible for academic planning and policy, developing institutional priorities, allocating new faculty positions, and monitoring the quality of the college's academic programs. His appointment as interim chancellor recognizes the educational leadership that he has displayed at Brooklyn College.

Dr. Kimmich is a scholar of twentieth-century German political history and foreign policy. He received a B.A. from Haverford College and a D. Phil. from Oxford University.
