Pulitzer Prize-Winner Frank McCourt and New York City Official Iris Schumer
Named Alumni of the Year at Brooklyn College

Brooklyn, NY -- The 1995 Pulitzer Prize-winning
author of Angela's Ashes, Frank McCourt, M.A. '67, was honored as the
Brooklyn College Alumni Association's Alumnus of the Year at its Gala Millennium
Reunion on Saturday, October 28, at the Brooklyn College student center, at
7:00 p.m. Mr. McCourt received a master's degree in English in 1967 from Brooklyn
College.
Also being honored as Alumna of the Year is Iris
Weinshall Schumer, '75, commissioner of the New York City Department of transportation.
Dennis Duggan, a columnist for Newsday, will introduce Mr. McCourt while
Ms. Schumer will be presented her award by her husband, U.S. Senator Charles
E. Schumer. Christoph M. Kimmich, president of Brooklyn College, will also deliver
marks at the event.
"It is a testament to the strength of our alumni
association that these distinguished people return to Brooklyn College," said
Marla Ginsberg, director of alumni affairs.
Last year's recipients of the Alumnus- and Alumna-of-the-Year-Awards
were actor Jimmy Smits, a 1980 Brooklyn College graduate, and U.S. Senator Barbara
Levy Boxer of California, who graduated in 1962.
