Drop the Rock Internship ProgramCoordinated by the Correctional Association of NY, the Drop the Rock Campaign is accepting applications for fall 2008 interns to assist project staff in coordinating the statewide alliance of individuals and organizations dedicated to promoting the repeal of the notorious Rockefeller Drug Laws. These statutes are amongst the harshest drug laws in the nation, and have proven to be ineffective, wasteful and marked by racial bias.  The Drop the Rock Coalition is composed of people who have been in prison, young people, criminal justice activists, faith leaders and concerned New Yorkers.
     Applicants should have an interest in grassroots organizing, criminal justice and/or racial and social justice.  The intern will perform various tasks, including assisting the coalition in its statewide petition drive, conducting educational outreach, web-based research, and attending community meetings.  The intern will also support project staff by providing administrative assistance and maintaining our coalition’s growing database.  Interns must work at least 10 hours each week, for a period of 10 weeks between the months of October through February 2008. Interns are unpaid, though college credit can be arranged.

Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project, Inc. Summer 2008 Internship
“We offer free legal advice and representation to people who cannot afford a lawyer and cannot be helped through other means. We train community lawyers in substantive areas of elder law, family law, battered women’s representation, personal bankruptcy and wills so that they are better prepared to represent clients in need.  Summer Internship program: Interns assist professional staff and attorneys.”

Investment Operations Internship: “The investment operations staff is responsible for accurately maintaining and reporting all trading and/or client activity on our internal recordkeeping systems for all the accounts that we manage on behalf of our clients. Some of the tasks involved in maintaining our internal recordkeeping systems include; daily trade reconciliations to the various custodian banks and brokers, daily end-of day trade balancing; daily/monthly reconciliations to the custodian banks and prime brokers; daily pricing and maintenance of the securities that we purchase and sell; and finally the maintenance of our monthly files. The operations staff is also responsible for periodic reporting to both internal and external clients. An intern would work with the portfolio administration and trade support staff on the tasks mentioned previously.”
