Brooklyn College Sweeps Cross Country Championships
The Brooklyn College men's and momen's cross country teams swept the CUNYAC Cross Country Championships on Sunday as they won both the women's 6-kilometer and the men's 8-kilometer races.
The women started the day by breezing to the school's first ever cross country championship and first title in any sport since 1998, as they outscored second place Staten Island College 57 to 66 points.
Then the men ran an excellent race but were matched runner for runner by Hunter College as both schools scored 59 points. Brooklyn's sixth finisher, Marlon Thornton broke the finish-line plane in 33:16.8 minutes, just 2.3 seconds ahead of Hunter's Legenry Sosa, giving Brooklyn the tiebreaker and the first place.
Freshman Joanne Mundo led the way for the BC Women as she finished fourth overall. Mundo, who has consistently been one of the best runners in the conference throughout the 2008 season, battled an injury which kept her from practicing all week to finish with her personal best time of 26:16 minutes.
Classmate Khrystyna Uhlitskykh finished in the top 10 as well as she claimed a time of 27:24 minutes, while placing ninth overall.  Senior Huan (Kayllen) Zhang was the third woman to earn a medal, as she finished 13th overall, finishing with a time of 28:18.4 minutes.

On the men's side, Timothy Mann who has been in the top 10 of every race run this season, followed suit, finishing seventh overall to lead the team.
Arvind Badhey and Patrick O'Leary-Gullo finished consecutively as Badhey finished 10th and O'Leary-Gullo finished 11th.
Senior Aaron Gross finished 20th overall with a time of 31:41.8 minutes, while Adam Metzler finished 25th with a time of 31:52.5 minutes.
The teams closed out their outstanding seasons in style by winning the championship meet. The women's team has only one senior, Zhang, while the men graduate three, Gross, Elias Avalos, and Reginald Posey.
