Target Opens Junction Store
With appropriate fanfare and many guests, the Midwood Target department store (aka the Brooklyn College Target) held its ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, March 4 before opening its doors to the public five days later.
This is the retail giant’s third Brooklyn store and, according to the Daily News, it is the largest in the U.S. The other two Brooklyn stores are the largest grossing Targets in the country.
Steve Little, Vice President for Finance-Administration, who attended the opening, said: “We at Brooklyn College were very excited to see the Target project finally come to fruition. We believe that they will not only play an important role in the continued revitalization of the Flatbush junction area, but believe that they will be a great new neighbor to the College and community.”
A responsible corporate citizen strongly committed to diversity in the workplace, Target partnered with Brooklyn College to recruit future personnel from among the BC student body and the Flatbush community.
More than 2,000 applicants crowded the BC Student Center on three occasions to apply for jobs. Many of the BC students were reached by email by the Magner Center. In the end, several students were hired for supervisory positions and a total of 600 people were hired for cashier and floor sale jobs, all of them from Brooklyn.
