  April Student-Athletes of the Month
Jaime Bellettini and Johnny Rolando Led Bridges to Post-season Play

Women’s softball player Jaime Bellettini and men’s tennis player Johnny Rolando were selected as the Brooklyn College Student-Athletes of the Month for April 2008 based on their individual athletic achievements and team accomplishments. Both players were vital in helping the Bridges reach the post-season in their respective sports.

Both a pitcher and a catcher, Bellettini had a standout senior campaign, further cementing her status as one of the elite players in the CUNYAC.  Finishing the season in the conference’s top ten in seven major batting and four major pitching categories, Bellettini led Brooklyn to a 10-8 mark in April.  In the pitcher’s circle, Bellettini pitched her squad to CUNYAC victories over City Tech, York, Medgar Evers, and Lehman. In the batter’s box, she posted a .500 batting average for the month (22-for-44), driving in 24 runs in 18 games.  She was also a CUNYAC Player of the Week On April 21.
“Jaime brings unbridled enthusiasm for the sport of softball,” said her head coach Pete Grillo.  A senior Physical Education major who was a three-sport star at Franklin K. Lane HS, Bellettini also competed on the Women’s Volleyball Team at Brooklyn College.

Rolando, a sophomore Tennis player, fashioned a 12-1 overall record, and a perfect 8-0 mark in CUNYAC singles play.  Versatile and energetic, Rolando was a crucial player to a team that won nine of ten matches during a critical late-season stretch.  Rolando played valiantly in the team’s play-off loss to Staten Island, knocking off Kevin Williams in straight sets (7-5, 6-0).
Tennis coach Louis Gonzalez noted that, “Johnny’s forehand and explosive serve dominated his opponents into submission.” Rolando is a Physical Education major who played tennis at Brooklyn’s Abraham Lincoln High School.
