Dave Bryan was selected as employee of the month because, among the other reasons cited by his nominators, he “goes above and beyond to meet the needs of his staff and to provide a number of services to the Brooklyn College community.”
     Bryan grew up on the island of Trinidad and immigrated to Brooklyn in 1990.  At Brooklyn College, he earned a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in business management and finance in 1995, and a master’s degree in economics three years later.
     Bryan has worked for the past five years as special assistant to Dean of Student Affairs Milga Morales.  For seven years before that, he managed the Central Depository, which accounts for and disburses all student activity fees.
     “My financial background comes in handy in my current job,” he says.  “My duties involve matters of budgeting, personnel, and contracts.  There is also a rather large management component because I work with the forty-two full-timers and seventy-eight part-timers who make up the division.”
     Bryan admits to being “a morning person.”  The resident of East Orange, New Jersey, says, “I like to get to work early, around 8:30 a.m., which means I have to get up around 5 a.m. or so.  It’s an hour-and-a-quarter commute through the Holland Tunnel and across Manhattan on Canal Street.”
     When not on the job, Bryan enjoys puttering around the house and spending time with his wife, Margaret, who he met in Trinidad, his four children, and his one granddaughter, who is 6 years old.  “I particularly like being away from the city, surrounded by the quiet of nature,” he says.
     One aspect of his position that Bryan especially enjoys is helping people reduce workplace stress.  “One of the biggest challenges people have is balancing work and family time,” he notes.
