With a presidential election on tap in November, The City University of New York has launched "Vote With the Best," to ensure that eligible voters are properly registered; to inform students about the importance of voting; and to integrate classroom experiences about the issues in order to promote interest in the election and voter participation.
"Vote With the Best" includes the distribution of more than 360,000 voter registration forms during the presidential election year in English, Spanish, Chinese and Korean. In addition, the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives at LaGuardia Community College is integrating classroom experiences into the outreach program.
Sameen Farooq, a junior in the Macaulay Honors College at Brooklyn College who recently won a prestigious Kenan Fellowship for emerging leaders, praised "Vote With the Best" and urged students, as well as faculty, staff and alumni, to register and vote in November. "The right to vote is the foundation upon which our democracy rests," he said. "It's extremely important for every eligible voter to exercise that right because voting is essential in shaping our government and our future." Mr. Farooq, who has been a Congressional intern, is majoring in biology and political science.
