Newly Renovated Field Building is Home to Computing Labs, Film Department,
Office of Student Testing, and Student Clubs During West Quad Construction

A few of the two hundred and fifty new computers in the ITS Public Computing Labs

In anticipation of the Plaza Building demolition, the College computer labs, Office of Student Testing, Department of Film, Student Club Room, and some lecture halls and classrooms have found temporary new homes in the freshly renovated Field Building. They will reside there for the next three years while the dramatic West Quad building is being completed.

The ITS Public Computing Labs now feature 250 new computers—including SUN workstations, PCs, and Apple MACs—in an inviting open work space. Nearby are lounge areas, study rooms, classrooms, tutoring areas, and a videoconference room. Special services include scanning, DVD writing, and express printing. The lab has been specially designed acoustically to make for a quiet facility.

Rarely empty, the student clubs area in the Field Building is a center of extracurricular activity.
The Department of Film, on the second floor, has office space for faculty and staff and two specially designed lecture halls with screens and projection equipment. Also on the second floor is the Office of Student Testing, where you can find information about the CUNY Assessment Tests, the Calculus Placement Test, the Transfer Students’ Writing Test and the CPE (CUNY Proficiency Exam).

Student clubs are located in a centralized area on the first floor in a configuration that promotes interaction and efficient communication among the various organizations.

A contest to choose a new name for the building will be announced at the beginning of the fall semester. We look forward to hearing suggestions from the community.
