CUNY Campaign for Voluntary Charitable Giving at Brooklyn College Begins for 200506
The CUNY Campaign, in partnership with the United Way of New York City, includes hundreds of charities and helps people all over the city. Donations are tax deductible and can be automatically withdrawn from your payroll check in modest biweekly increments, making it easy to support children, the elderly, your favorite organization, or any of the hundreds of other worthy causes participating in the CUNY Campaign. President Christoph Kimmich has made a special appeal for Brooklyn College staff and faculty to participate this year. The CUNY Campaign is a two-month effort by all nineteen CUNY campuses and the CUNY central office to raise money for charity and address the critical health, human, and environmental challenges facing communities in New York City and the larger society. This is the twenty-second year of the campaign that was started to consolidate all of the charitable appeals made to employees. Last year's campaign, with its "Making a Difference—Changing Lives" theme, raised the most money in the history of the campaign$497,208. This money provided much-needed support to people throughout our community who suffer from poverty, illness, homelessness, or addiction. This year's theme, "Together We Make It Better," celebrates the important impact of this CUNY-wide charitable effort. Hundreds of charities devoted to children and to finding cures for a wide range of catastrophic illnesses participate in the CUNY Campaign. Almost every ethnicity and religion is represented, and donors can even contribute to the Brooklyn College Foundation and help fund scholarships for future students of the College. Dozens of local charities are listed, along with organizations that reach out to the poorest and most disadvantaged people in the world. Click here for a list of participating charities. Click here for a copy of the payroll form (to be submitted to a CUNY Campaign captain). By participating in the CUNY Campaign, Brooklyn College faculty, staff, and students demonstrate their support for programs and services designed to create a better world. All donors will receive a CUNY Campaign pen, and a contribution of $500 to $1,039 will be acknowledged with a token of appreciation for joining the CUNY Leadership Giving Circle. Membership in Chancellor's Circle ($1,040 or more) merits a special invitation to the Chancellor's Award Reception.
