Major artists and themes in European art, mainly French, during the second half of the nineteenth century. Art and literature and new optical theories of color and light. Major artists: Courbet, Manet, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin. (Not open to students who have completed Art 16.5.)
Prerequisite: Art 1050 [1.3] or Core Studies 2.1 or Core Curriculum 1120 [1.2] or Art 1010.
