CBSE 4221 Seminar and Comprehensive Student Teaching II:Childhood Education

2 hours recitation, weekly supervised teaching (at least 300 hours); 6 credits

Application of the principles of teaching to all aspects of the curriculum, including literacy instruction in childhood classrooms (grades 1-6); long- and short-term planning. Focus on self-reflective teaching and assessment procedures to address the learning needs of a diverse student population, including linguistically diverse learners and students with special needs. Preparation in development of school-community relationships and collaborative learning; integration of instructional technology; culmination of portfolio development. Readings and discussions on significant issues related to classroom teaching and professional development, including preventing child abduction, substance abuse, safety education, and child abuse awareness. Focus on urban schools and the process of school change. Open only to students who have completed all required education courses with a grade point average of 3.00 or higher, and a grade point average of 3.00 or higher in liberal arts and sciences courses. An application process is required for student teaching. Completed application must be submitted and accepted a semester prior to the beginning of your student teaching placement. Only accepted students will be given permission to register for student teaching. Fingerprint clearance required. Student teaching is 14 weeks in length, full-time, in an educational setting, and in alignment with the daily schedule and annual calendar of that educational setting.

Prerequisite: Childhood, Bilingual and Special Education 3206, 3207.
