The nineteenth and twentieth-century American West in history and myth. Emphasis on the development of the frontier myth through literature, dime novels, films, and other forms of popular culture. The relationship between myth and history; the development of the western hero; the role of race, gender, and violence. This course is the same as American Studies 3102 [20.3].
