Studies in genre types and production techniques from aesthetic, sociocultural, historical, and economic perspectives. Narrative structure, character and social group stereotyping, and popular appeal of archetypal patterns. Each term focuses on an individual genre chosen from:action/adventure, dramatic, serial, situation comedy, news and documentary, television commercial, etc. Students may take this course for credit twice, but may not repeat topics. (Not open to students who have completed Television and Radio 4173.)
Prerequisite: Television and Radio 2616  and 2265 [16.5].
