Department requirements (36 credits)

1: General Surveys (3 credits). Students must take three credits in one of the following three courses: HIST 1101, HIST 1201 or HIST 1202 to satisfy this requirement.

2: History 2001W: The Historian's Craft (4 credits). History 2001W is a prerequisite for all history courses numbered in the 4000s.

3: Lower Division courses (21 credits), including at least three credits in each of the following geographic regions a), b), c), and d). Within the specific geographic regions listed below, all students majoring in History must take at least one course from before 1500 from among the following: HIST 3001, 3002, 3003, 3015, 3021, 3022, 3023, 3024, 3025, 3030, 3031, 3033, 3040, 3044, 3050, 3070, 3090, 3100, 3101, 3102, 3103, 3310, 3317, 3323, 3352, 3530, 3532, 3536, 3560.

a) European history
b) Transnational and comparative history
c) United States history
d) African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American, and Middle Eastern history.

And any two additional courses, excluding HIST 1101, HIST 1201 and HIST 1202.

4: Upper Division courses (8 credits). Eight credits in upper-division, 4000-level courses with a grade of C or higher in each course. One of these courses must be a colloquium.
