646 School Counseling M.S. in Ed. March 1st The program does not accept applications for Spring none Students will be admitted to the School Counseling Program with matriculated status only. Students commit to either Full Time or Part Time status once they are admitted, depending on availability of the openings, and are expected to maintain this status for the duration of their matriculation in the program. Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and have completed an approved undergraduate program of study with a minimum grade point average of 3.00. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit a score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Transfer credits are rarely accepted. Applicants who wish to have courses considered for transfer credit must provide course descriptions or syllabuses demonstrating that the courses are directly parallel to offerings required in the Brooklyn College program. The School Counseling program is competitive and receives more qualified applicants than there are openings available. Prospective applicants should have an understanding of the changing nature of school counseling as well as a solid commitment to the profession and an awareness of such values as multiculturalism, self-reflection, and social justice. The program seeks to admit students-both educators and others with some background in working with children-whose experience demonstrates emotional intelligence, imagination, and leadership qualities.

Application Procedure

Applications can be obtained online at www.brooklyn.cuny.edu. Documents can be submitted to the Brooklyn College Office of Graduate Admissions, 2900 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11210-2889, or in person in 1103 James Hall.

Applicants should submit the following by March 1 to the Brooklyn College Office of Graduate Admissions:

1) Brooklyn College/CUNY application to the Division of Graduate Studies; 2) Two letters of recommendation, including at least one letter from a professor with whom you have studied; 3) Official transcript from each college or university you have attended; 4) A personal statement of approximately 750 words explaining your reasons for wishing to enter the profession of school counseling. The essay should be self-reflective, make appropriate reference to experience working with children, and demonstrate one's familiarity and compatibility with particular features of the Brooklyn College School Counseling program; 5) Resume; and 6) Application fee.

Following a review of applications, potential candidates will be invited for a group interview with the program faculty. The interview enables faculty to assess personal characteristics deemed necessary for successful performance in the field of school counseling. During the interview, applicants will be asked to complete a writing sample of 250 words drawn from suggested topics. A satisfactory evaluation on the interview is a requirement for admission to the program.

The Art Teacher Education Program applicants must submit the following special admissions requirements to the Admissions Office, unless otherwise noted:
1. Personal statement explaining why you are choosing to become an art educator;
2. Resume;
3. LAST (Liberal Arts and Sciences Test) scores ora written registration confirmation of the LAST;
4. Portfolio (10 to 15 slides or a CD of art work) should include slides that demonstrate a working knowledge of a variety of media in addition to your specialty.
