Summer Academy for Middle and High School Students Continuing Education-Summer Preparatory Academies: Entering Grades 7-8, 9-12

This unique program, held on our beautiful campus, includes a variety of academic and recreational modules, designed to prepare students for higher learning. See course descriptions below.

Our High School Preparatory Academy is for students entering Grades 7 and 8 in September 2009. Our College Preparatory Academy is for students entering Grades 9-12 in September 2009.

Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Total cost of program for 2009 $1395.00 (includes all books and material fees) Early morning drop-off (8-10 a.m.) and late day pickup (3-5 p.m.) available at additional costs.

2009 CLASSES
YP 108 High School Preparatory Academy for Students in Grades 7 and 8
This six-week program will include a variety of academic, cultural and recreational modules,designed to prepare students for the high school experience, in a college atmosphere. Academic modules will focus on concepts and skills necessary for success on specialized and standardized exams. Classes may include:

Math Matters: a course in mathematical concepts and problem solving skills with a focus on the NY State mathematics exams. This is the perfect bridge program linking one grade to the next.
Humanities: a course in language arts and social studies which helps students develop those skills essential for success on NY State standardized exams. Students develop vocabulary, reading and writing skills and keep abreast of current events.
Crime Lab Detective: a hands on workshop in which students delve into the world of detective crime science and secret communications. The classroom will be transformed into a crime lab for this exciting exploration of the fundamentals of forensics.
Adventures in Animation: In this innovative class, students will explore the world of animation using computer software and digital cameras.
Puppet Power: a workshop designed to enhance creativity as well as communication skills. (For students entering grade 7.)
Fitness for Tweens: a physical education course which focuses on nutrition, exercise and indoor sports. (For students entering grade 7.)
Brain Games: In this class, students will play games such as Chess, Stock Market, Scrabble & Cranium in order to develop critical thinking and strategy planning skills. Students will also design their own games. (for students entering grade 8)Intermediate Theater Arts-- -a course designed to build self-confidence and strengthen self-awareness through role playing, monologues and interactive skits. (For students entering grade 8.)

YP 109 College Preparatory Academy for Students in Grades 9-12
Students enrolled in our College Preparatory Academy will participate in activities designed to enhance study skills and test-taking techniques, as well as critical thinking and social skills. Academic modules will focus on concepts and skills necessary for success on specialized and standardized exams. Classes may include:

Project Math: focusing on math strategies used in everyday life, this class incorporates skills in algebra, statistics, probability and geometry. (for students entering grade 9.)
Math Matters: a comprehensive study of those mathematical concepts which are tested on the SAT Exam. (for students entering grades 10-12.)
Humanities 1: an integrated course in language arts and social studies which focuses on the development of vocabulary, reading comprehension and creative writing skills as well as on current events. (for students entering grade 9.)
Humanities 2: an integrated course in language arts and social studies which focuses on the development of those skills necessary for success on the SAT Examination. (for students entering grades 10-12)
Money Matters: a hands on workshop in which students learn the essentials of budgeting and finance. Fun activities will focus on spending, investing, banking and saving money.
Adventures in Animation: In this innovative class, students will explore the world of animation using computer software and digital cameras.
The Play in Production: This course is an in -depth look at each phase of the theatrical production process - from the first draft of the script to the final stage performance. Students will learn how to analyze and research a script in order to make creative decisions regarding sets, props, and costumes.
Fine Arts: a class which explores the art world and its most reknown artists. Students will focus on the interpretation of famous paintings and sculptures and try their hand at creating their own works of art.

Youth Programs at Brooklyn College - Summer 2009 CUB-Children�s University at Brooklyn College: Entering Grades 1-6

This exciting six-week program will provide your children with intellectual stimulation and creative inspiration. All classes are held on our beautiful campus, Monday-Thursday.

Total cost of program for 2009: $1395.00 (includes all books and material fees) Additional classes will be offered from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at an additional cost.
Early morning drop-off (8-10 am) and late day pickup (3-5 pm) available at additional costs.

Courses for 2009 YS100 Young Scholars On Campus Grades 1-2
Children entering first and second grade in September 2009 will explore learning through our hands-on classes. Academic modules will include instruction in mathematics, reading and science. Additional modules may include: Elementary Performing Arts, Mask Making, Fitness for Kids and Arts and Crafts.

YS200 Young Scholars On Campus Grades 3-4
Expand the learning capacity of your third or fourth grader with our new and exciting youth program. Academic modules will include instruction in mathematics and language arts. Emphasis will be placed on developing strong analytical skills necessary for success on all standardized exams. Additional modules may include Flight Academy, Pop Science, Fitness for Kids and Chinese Flour Dough Sculpture.

YS300 Young Scholars On Campus Grades 5-6
Children entering grades five or six in September 2008 will love this stimulating summer program. Academic modules will include instruction in mathematics and language arts with a focus on test-taking strategies and problem solving skills. Additional modules may include: Flight Academy, Chinese Flour Dough Sculpture, Living History & Mysteries of Magic.
