BC Faculty, Students Lead Fight for State Funds
4/3/2008Brooklyn College’s vigorous efforts to secure needed resources in the New York State budget were bolstered recently when twenty faculty, students, and sta
ff members traveled to Albany to urge state legislators to support the College’s funding requests. They met with thirty-three elected officials and key staffers to make appeals on behalf of the College. Among those was State Senator Marty Golden (R, C, Brooklyn), pictured here with Professor Peter Lipke, chairperson of the Biology Department, and Thea Schlieben a sophomore in the Scholars Program and co-captain of the women’s volleyball team.
The state budget is being negotiated right now. The outlook for the funding of the College’s budget request is promising, but we cannot take anything for granted and must remain vigilant and active until the final bill is adopted. There is still time to make your voice heard and to remind legislators to support Brooklyn College.
