Before you proceed with the electronic application, please review the following information to get acquainted with our admissions procedures.

  • Only applicants holding a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent are eligible for graduate study.You can only submit your application once. If you have updates to any information you have submitted, please notify the Office of Admissions immediately. We can be reached via email at grads@brooklyn.cuny.edu or by telephone at 718.951.5001.
  • All applicants, except applicants for non-degree programs, must submit the application processing fee in order for their application to be processed. The non-refundable $125 application processing fee can be charged to your credit card after you have submitted your online application. If you wish to mail your fee payment directly to the office, make your check or money order payable to Brooklyn College and use the mailing address provided. The college does not waive or defer the application processing fee for degree program applications. Applicants for non-degree programs will be required to pay the application fee upon acceptance to the program.
  • There is no summer admissions cycle. Students wishing to enroll in the summer must complete an application for the fall term. Candidates admitted early in the fall admissions cycle can enroll for the summer semester.
  •  Supporting documents will not be returned.

Degree Seeking Applicants

If you wish to apply to more than one program, you must submit a separate, complete application, including all documents and fees, for each program.

It is not possible to pursue two or more award bearing programs concurrently. You can only accept one offer of admission.


Supporting Documents

Please refer to the Admissions Requirements for specific requirements for the program to which you are applying.

Letters of Recommendation. All degree seeking applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation. References can come from instructors and professionals in your field. If you have not had recent contact with such persons, you may elect to submit letters from employers, supervisors, or other professionals familiar with your academic and professional strengths.

Official Transcripts. All degree seeking applicants are required to submit official transcripts from all university and colleges attended. Transcripts must arrive in envelopes sealed by the Registrar’s office. Do not open envelope. Applicants with international credentials who have personal copies of their transcript and are unable to obtain official, sealed transcripts, must make two bona-fide postal attempts to obtain their official, sealed transcript. These attempts must be made at least one month apart. Applicants should go to the Post Office and send a return- receipt request for their transcript. If the transcript does not arrive after a period of 30 days, the applicant should return to the Post Office and make a second request. Both receipts must be presented to the Office of Admissions. Along with the receipt, copies of the student’s transcripts must be submitted.

Course-by-Course Evaluation. Applicants with international credentials are required to submit a course-by-course evaluation of their transcript. Please see Guidelines for Applicants with International Transcripts.

Test Scores. Applicants who are on temporary visas and whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). We will only accept TOEFL scores sent to us directly from Educational Testing Services (ETS). Our TOEFL code is 2046.

All teacher education applicants are required to submit Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST) scores. In lieu of LAST scores, a candidate can submit a copy of their official registration receipt to take the LAST. For more information on the LAST visit http://www.nystce.nesinc.com/.

For programs that require Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores, we will only accept GRE scores sent to us directly from Educational Testing Services (ETS). Our GRE code is R2046.

For programs that require Miller Analogies Test (MAT), scores must be sent to us directly from the Harcourt Test Center. For more information on the MAT visit http://www.milleranalogies.com/.

Personal Statement/Essay. Certain programs require a personal statement. Please refer to the Application Requirements to review these programs. Where the particular subject and length of the personal statement is not prescribed, candidates should submit a statement that highlights their interest in the field and professional career goals.


Non-degree Seeking Applicants

Along with the application, non-degree applicants must submit a copy of their transcript showing bachelor’s degree notation. Internet and fax copies of transcripts are not suitable. No additional supporting documents are required. When applying for non-degree status, you must select a program. Non-degree applicants can subsequently apply to a degree program. Non-degree applicants with international credentials, please see Guidelines for Applicants with International Transcripts. Applicants who require a student visa (F1) are not eligible for non-degree status.
