2004-Present: Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry
Brooklyn College, City University of New York 1996-2004: Assistant Professor, Division of Environmental Sciences, Department of Pediatrics, Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York 1992-1996: Instructor, Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine 1987-1992: Research Associate, Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine 1986-1987: Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Education: DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY, SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY - 1987 (PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY) Areas of Expertise: My research involves structural and functional studies of the bone protein osteocalcin complexed to Ca2+,Pb2+ and Mg2+. Osteocalcin is involved in bone remodeling and crystal size. I use 2D NMR techniques for structural determination and mice femora to determine protein mineral binding. Alterations in mineral properties and strength due to protein mineral binding are determined by Fourier Transform IR Microscopy and biomechanical measurements. Results are relevant to Pb2+ toxicity and diabetes. |
