Professor of Sociology at Brooklyn College and the City University Graduate Center; author of books on cities, culture, and consumer culture; researcher on urban, cultural, and economic change. Broeklundian Professor 1996-2008. Lynd Award for Career Achievement in urban sociology, American Sociological Association. C. Wright Mills Book Award for LANDSCAPES OF POWER.
