John Marra was part of a panel on Public Participation and Production of Natural Water Resources, Chaired by Melissa Checker, Urban Studies, Queens College. John spoke on 'Food from the Ocean: The Changing Seascape'

Ocean Sciences Meeting, Nice France, January, 2009

John Marra attended the Ocean Sciences Meeting, and presented research from the GAP Workshop and the ONDEQUE cruise (see below). Frank Grasso also attended, and presented research on lobster behavior.

John Marra attended this conference and reported research from his NASA project on 'Ocean Productivity from Absorption and Light (OPAL)'.

GAP, March-April, 2008

John Marra was an invited speaker and and experiment Group Leader (Phytoplankton Group) at the Group for Aquatic Productivity Workshop held i n Eilat, Israel. The publication, based on his presentation, is entitled, 'Net or Gross: Weighing in with 14C' and is in press in Aquatic Microbial Ecology.

ONDEQUE cruise, July 2008

ONDEQUE is the name of a project supported by the National Science Foundation, 'The Control of photosynthetic quantum yield of phytoplankton by light intensity and diapycnal nutrient flux' (OCE 05-50725). The last of 3 oceanographic cruises occurred last July. Nicole Braudy, an undergrad in the Geology Dept., came along on the cruise to help with the operations.
