Just Extended! Tax Incentives for IRA Gifts!

Act now to take advantage of this newly-extended tax break that can benefit both you and Brooklyn College.

Congress has just extended the Pension Protection Act so you can make a charitable gift from your IRA entirely tax free for tax years 2008 and 2009 and satisfy all or part of your required distribution. You can still use your IRA to make an annual gift to Brooklyn College, satisfy or prepay a current pledge, or establish a named scholarship or other permanent fund at the College.

You may contribute funds in this way if:

  • You are age 701/2 or older
  • The gift is $100,000 or less
  • You make the gift on or before December 31, 2008
  • You transfer funds directly from your IRA

To enjoy the full benefits of this limited opportunity, you must complete the transfer prior to December 31 of this year. To learn more, contact Bill Healy, senior philanthropy adviser at the Brooklyn College Foundation, at 718.951.5074 or whealy@brooklyn.cuny.edu.
