Message from the Dean

I am pleased to celebrate the launching of the Brooklyn College Undergraduate Research Journal.  The Journal was founded to recognize and showcase the original research of our outstanding undergraduate students from across the disciplines.  It highlights the mission of the College to induct the next generation of scholars and engaged citizens into lively communities of knowledge-making, exploration, questioning, and problem-solving.  The intellectual rigor of the papers bears eloquent witness to the successful partnerships between faculty mentors and student researchers.  Ranging from doomsday narratives to street art to academic test performance, the diversity of academic interests displayed in the Journal mirrors the remarkable diversities of Brooklyn College and our borough.

On behalf of the College, I want to say thank you to the Editorial Board and to Professor Robert Cherry, Editor-in-Chief, for their rigorous review of submissions, and to all the faculty advisors. Hearty congratulations to the student researchers published in the inaugural volume of the Brooklyn College Undergraduate Research Journal; you can take great pride in this signal accomplishment.

Dr. Donna F. Wilson
Dean of Undergraduate Studies
