Fourth Child Policy Forum of New York: The Human Rights of Children on the Saturday, November 14 Click this link for program details: November 14 Program Draft (pdf) The Fourth Child Policy Forum of New York is co-sponsored with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture on the occasion of their exhibition of Courage, – an exhibit from the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte, NC, opening on October 1. (For information, see URL: http://www.nypl.org/research/calendar/exhib/sch/schexhibdesc.cfm?id=524). It is about a South Carolina congregation, its pastor, and their law suit which was the first out of five law suits that led to Brown v. Board of Education 55 years ago. Assembly of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), a human rights treaty for children (0 - 18), which has since been ratified by 193 countries – with the exception of the U.S. and Somalia. Opening Remarks: Hon. Dennis M. Walcott, Deputy Mayor for Education and Community Development
Discussion will include Brown v. Board of Education, the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, and their implications for children and young people today, along with perspectives from key legislators on major issues with a focus on children in New York City and State.
