The Center for the Study of Brooklyn provides data analysis and mapping services for Brooklyn-based community groups, institutions, elected officials, researchers, local businesses, and media.
Groups have used these custom reports to support funding proposals, advocacy initiatives, programming and marketing decisions, research and publications, and targeted outreach to constituencies.

- Purpose: To analyze city-owned vacant lots in Brooklyn to assist the Brooklyn Food Coalition and other organizations in strategizing how to approach studying (and ultimately increasing the number of) community gardens in the borough.

8. Haitian Demographic Information (pdf)

- Purpose: Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the Brooklyn Community Foundation reached out to the Center for the Study of Brooklyn seeking basic demographic data on Haitians in Brooklyn, New York City and the United States to inform an effort to assist the local Haitian community through the formation of the “New York City Haitian Community Hope and Healing Fund.”

- Purpose: The Center provided a basemap of vacant public land in Brooklyn for the production of a poster to support a movement to rezone underutilized government land for food production.
- "596 Acres is a public education project aimed at making communities aware of the land resources around them. With the goal of a food sovereign New York City in mind, 596 Acres is helping neighbors form connections to the vacant lots in their lives -- from the smallest (throwing a seedbomb) to the largest (hosting a public meeting with the head of a City Agency that owns a vacant lot that was promised to the community as a park- see myrtlepark.org). - "Professors Jerome Krase and Timothy Shortell in the Sociology Department were asked to contribute an essay "The Visual Impact of Islam: A Special Focus on Turkish Migration to the United States and Europe" for "Turkish Migration to the Americas: From Ottoman Times to the Present." This will be a special issue of the International Journal of Turkish Studies. We have been doing global visual sociological studies of these and other aspects of changing urban environments. a major element of the essay will be the relatively small population of Turks in Brooklyn as a visual contrast to larger enclaves such as Kreuzberg, Berlin. The Center for the Study of Brooklyn contributed to the success of the project by assembling demographic and mapping data about the Turkish population in Brooklyn that will greatly enhance the presentation of the visual data.
