Instrument Usage
Instrument usages by customer with minimum supervision are charged by the number of days or hours. Training and certification are required to operate the instruments. The Center will offer free training periodically (e.g., every 6 months). The rates are: ICP-MS - $300 per day or $40 per hour; TEM - $30 per hour; XRD - $10 per hour.
Annual subscription of instrumental usage is encouraged. Each subscription includes 25 days of priority access to the instrument with minimal supervision. Subscription rates are:
ICP-MS - $6,000; TEM - $5,000; XRD - $1,500.
Elemental analysis for aqueous solutions with DRC ICP-MS
If the analysis is done by customer with minimal supervision (training and certification are required to operate the ICP-MS), per sample charge (up to 10 elements) is $20 for up to 10 samples, and $15 for >11 samples. There is a minimum instrument set up charge of $75 which allows up to 3 samples with the same method. If concentration range is unknown, an additional $50 is required to screen the sample and make the standards.
If the analysis is done by Center staff, per sample charge (up to 10 elements) is $30 for up to 10 samples, and $25 for >11 samples. Minimum set up charge and sample screen charge will also apply if necessary.
It is strongly suggested to prepare your samples into <5% nitric acid solutions, free of particulates > 0.45 um, containing <2% organics. TDS is required to be below 0.1% when diluted for ICP-MS determination. General matrix info is strongly desired.
Sample processing / digestion
The Center can assist customer with sample processing such as acid digestion, freeze drying, loading sample onto grids, etc. The general guideline rates are: customer w/ supervision - $200 per day; customer w/o supervision - $150 per day; full service: $300 per day. Per sample charges can be discussed upon inquiry. Please note that additional fees may be required for uncommon supplies.
Arsenic, chromium and selenium speciation for aqueous solutions
The metal speciation work is done by Center staff, or research students with intense supervision. Samples must be submitted in aqueous form, properly preserved and need minimal pH adjustment. The rates are $40 per sample if under 10 samples, and $30 per sample for 10 or more samples. There is a minimum set up fee of $100 which allows up to 2 samples with the same method.
